Our History

February 1993
The Kansas District called Pastor Harmon and he and his family moved to Wichita to develop a new congregation.
 
May 12, 1993
The initial formation meeting of the mission congregation was held at the home of Tom and Valerie Mack. Weekly informal gatherings for adults and children resulted from the initial meeting. These weekly gatherings were held in homes and consisted of fellowship, service of praise, Bible study and business meetings.
 
July 18, 1993
Risen Savior was selected as the name for this new church. Our purpose statement was formulated by members to reflect the outreach emphasis of the congregation and the importance of its small group ministry.
 
 
 
 
September 1993
Two suites in Oxford Square Shopping Center were leased to be our temporary “home” until the construction of our permanent facility.
 
October 3, 1993
The first “official” service was held.
 
November 20, 1994
Charter Sunday.
 
April 2, 1995
Pastor Harmon was installed as the first pastor of Risen Savior.
 
 
 
July 9, 1995
Ceremonial Groundbreaking for Phase I.
 
February 18, 1996
Dedication of Phase I (The multi-purpose room, fellowship hall, office and 4 classrooms).
 
April 22, 2001
Ceremonial Groundbreaking for Phase II.
 
November 11, 2001
Dedication of Phase II (additional classrooms north and west of the multi-purpose room).
 
June 30, 2013
Burning the mortgage (We’re debt free!)
January 10, 2016
Launch of the ‘Gather. Equip. Send.’ capital campaign.
 
February 19, 2017
Ceremonial Groundbreaking for Phase III (new worship center, gather space, and offices).
 
July 24, 2017
Construction of Phase III began.
 
 
October 7, 2018
Dedication of Phase III.
 
 
November 20, 2018
Risen Savior celebrated our 25th Anniversary!
